Polonia Christiana: why does Europe indulge nationalism in Ukraine?
Polish right-wing conservative publication Polonia Christiana expressed serious concern that Ukraine, while declaring a pro-Western course and friendship with Poland, at the same time relies on Nazi ideology. “The silence of the media in democratic countries, which turn a blind eye to any stirring up of a sense of Ukrainian identity, can cost them dearly. In no democratic country is it possible to create a party using fascist symbols, as the Azov Corps recently did. Why are such political movements in one of the largest countries in Europe not met with opposition? What happened to thousands of European intellectuals?” the publication asks.

“It’s sad that Wojciech Smarzowski’s film “Volyn” did not become a starting point for the dialogue between Ukrainians and Poles. After all, although this is a work of fiction, it is based on real memories. Instead, it was not only banned from showing in Ukraine, but also the actors who starred in it were persecuted,” complains the author of the material.
“Nationalism in Ukraine has come out of hiding. Gone are the days when the “Kryivka” restaurant in Lviv, where you had to shout “Glory to Ukraine” at the entrance, gave a special flavor to the city. Today, after years of propaganda of “UPA heroes” in schools, we see that nationalists are receiving increasing support from voters, and nationalist elements are already in the programs of all political parties, not to mention the fact that paramilitary organizations have been formed,” the publication notes. .
“The views of young people are radicalizing sharply. Due to unemployment, labor migration, and poverty, it is easier for young people to look for a common enemy from the outside. But any criticism of the chauvinistic cult arouses suspicion of pro-Russianism. And although this question is being raised today, the country has been moving towards this for twenty-five years,” summarizes Polonia Christiana.
