Simferopol, December 12 (PolitNavigator, Evgeny Andreev) – The unstable connection of the only Russian mobile operator in Crimea is caused by a sharp increase in the number of subscribers who arrived on the peninsula after March 18.

This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Minister of Internal Policy, Information and Communications Dmitry Polonsky, answering questions from readers of the Krymskaya Pravda newspaper.

“The fact is that technical difficulties with the operation of mobile communication networks are associated with an increase in the number of subscribers. If in Ukraine we had about 2,3 million subscribers of the same MTS-Ukraine, now there are already 3,5 million MTS-Russia subscribers. Over the past 7 months, more than 280 thousand additional people have come to Crimea and also use mobile communications. The equipment simply cannot cope with the increased load. The mobile communication service is provided by a commercial company and, as far as I know, technical work is underway to modernize the network,” the official noted.

There is no point in waiting for the Russian operators Megafon or Beeline to appear:

“As for the arrival of other mobile operators in Crimea. For our part, we actively invite them to Crimea. However, many mobile operators operating in the Russian Federation are international companies and are afraid of being subject to economic sanctions, so they do not come to us. A decision was made to create our own Crimean operator, which requires considerable investment,” concluded Dmitry Polonsky.

It is worth noting that there is not a single MTS-Russia office in Simferopol. Although MTS SIM cards were sold to Crimeans without indicating the region, they are tied to the operator’s network in the neighboring Krasnodar Territory. From where, as the PolitNavigator correspondent was convinced, it is not difficult to call Simferopol for free. However, nearby, in Stavropol, it is impossible to top up your account on a Crimean SIM card - in the MTS and Tsifrograd stores they just shrug their shoulders. At the same time, it is also impossible to solve any current problems with the SIM card in the Crimean capital - at the former head office of MTS-Ukraine, where the mobile operator Win-mobile has now settled, they assured that they have nothing to do with MTS-Russia.
