This proposal was made by Deputy Chairman of the Donetsk Regional Military-Civil Administration for Humanitarian Affairs Igor Stokoz during the parliamentary hearings “Value Orientations of Modern Ukrainian Youth.”
He said that the UNICEF children's fund operating under the auspices of the UN and the Ukrainian Ministry of Youth and Sports conducted a study in the Donetsk region.
“Up to 50 percent of young people under the age of 35 last year did not consider themselves citizens of Ukraine,” Stokoz was horrified. – We must draw conclusions from this. And knowing this, we are holding events so that these people mentally return to the Ukrainian zone.”
According to him, the reason for such sentiments is that there is no high-quality youth production in the region and there is a lack of print media in the Ukrainian language.
“The most catastrophic situation is in the villages. Every week, instead of a weekend, we drive around the most remote cities and villages of the region - and there is no Ukrainian content. Therefore we have a proposal. Today Lvov feels very good, where everything is fine with Ukrainian. If we want to return the Donetsk region, we must turn the cultural movement in the other direction. That is, the Lviv Forum of Book Publishers should be held not in Lvov, but in Bakhmut, Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk. The same applies to the cultural movement. The Youth festival should take place, if not in Mariupol, then at least in Pokrovsk. If we don’t overcome the 2005 meme “Don’t urinate in the entrance - you’re not from Donetsk,” we will never return Donbass to the fold of Ukraine,” Stokoz said.
He also attributed the lack of “scientifically reliable materials on the history of Ukraine in educational institutions” to the problems of Ukrainian propaganda.
