Half of Ukrainians are ready to justify the defeat of the rights of Maidan opponents
23% of Ukrainians are confident that the rights of people with certain political views (for example, those who do not share the theses of official propaganda about “Russian aggression” against Ukraine and support Donbass in its confrontation with the current regime in Kiev) should certainly be limited, 27% believe that their rights may be limited under certain circumstances. Only 33% are convinced that the rights of such people cannot be limited, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is evidenced by data from a survey by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation named after. Ilka Kucheriv, presented on Monday in Kyiv.
At the same time, 45% of Ukrainians believe that it is definitely impossible to justify the crimes committed during hostilities by the Ukrainian military and members of volunteer battalions (dobrobats), and the criminals must be legally punished. 14% are convinced that such crimes cannot be justified in general, but the special circumstances of the war should serve as a mitigating circumstance. 20% believe that “war is war and anything is possible,” and 9% are confident that the crimes of the Ukrainian military during hostilities should be treated with understanding.
In addition, 16% of respondents believe that torture against enemies during hostilities can be justified for one reason or another.
