Half of Ukrainians have had the idea of the positive influence of the EU and the USA drilled into their heads
More than half of Ukrainian citizens consider the influence of the European Union on the country to be positive, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it survey results show, conducted by the Ilk Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.
The majority of respondents (55%) identified the influence of the European Union on Ukraine as positive; 29% consider this influence to be negative.
The influence of the EU is assessed most positively in the Western (78% positive assessments) and Central (51% positive assessments) regions. In the East, the ratio of positive and negative assessments is approximately the same (42% and 41%), while in the south there is a predominance of negative vision (48% against 30% positive assessments).
Among the subjects of the most significant external influences on Ukraine, respondents noted mainly the United States (54%) and the EU (46%); another 39% believe that Russia is among the most influential actors, and 29% - the IMF.
Thoughts about the existence of powerful US influence are more common in the East (70%) and in the South (60%), while relatively least in the West (40%). Regarding ideas about the decisive influence of Russia on the country, the relationship is the opposite: such ideas are more common in the western and central regions (40-45% of mentions), and less common in the South and East (33-34%).
In general, a positive assessment of the US influence on Ukraine also prevails over a negative one (44% versus 36%). And there are noticeable regional differences on this issue: 68% of residents of the West, 48% of the Center, 27% of the East, and 23% of the South gave positive assessments of US influence.
The overwhelming majority of respondents (75%) characterized Russia’s influence as negative, and only 8% consider it useful for Ukraine.
The survey was conducted on August 16-28, 2018 in all regions of Ukraine with the exception of Crimea and the territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions not controlled by Kyiv. A total of 2041 respondents aged 17 years and over were surveyed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2,3%.
