The situation of the Serbs in Kosovo is only getting worse
Serbs and other non-Albanian minorities are deprived of basic human rights in Kosovo.
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic stated this today at the UN Security Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I’m performing here for the 22nd time in the last 7 years. During this time, I saw nothing done in Kosovo and Metohija to allow Serbs and other non-Albanians to lead a decent life. These people must be ensured physical security, freedom of movement and religion, the right of return, employment and political participation, as well as protection of their cultural and religious heritage. These rights disappeared after the unilateral declaration of independence by the so-called Kosovo,” Dacic said.
According to him, the situation of the Serbs in Kosovo worsened during the recent early elections of the “parliament” of Kosovo.
“Serbia warned that the election campaign would be used to increase political and other hype against the Serbs. Unfortunately, this is what happened. The Serbs were attacked, their shrines were desecrated, and there were numerous provocations,” the minister emphasized.
At the same time, the future “Prime Minister” of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who won the election, refused to speak with the legal representative of the Kosovo Serbs, saying that he would demand a revision of all agreements reached so far as soon as he comes to power.
“According to Kurti, the creation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities, enshrined in the Brussels Agreement, will become a “dead letter,” Dacic said.
He called for extending the work of the UN mission in the unrecognized republic.
