“We sent more than 50 notes to the countries of the European Union, the Council of Europe and NATO, so that this matter would be known in our cultural and civilizational circle, among our allies. Today – and I think that this will probably be the most important document – we are also submitting a request to the UN with a request to intervene in this situation,” said the Polish diplomat.

He emphasized that Warsaw also contacted UNESCO and the Council of Europe regarding works of art from Poland looted by the Nazis.

According to Mularczyk, the purpose of the request to the UN is to “inform the international community” that “there is a problem of undetected crimes.” The actions of the Polish Foreign Ministry on the issue of reparations over the past three months are aimed at “internationalizing the issue of compensation and reparations” and “informing politicians and diplomats that this problem has not been resolved.”

“We ask you to intervene in this matter, to create some kind of platform for dialogue with Germany, which does not want to conduct this dialogue,” added the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

At the same time, a day earlier, the results of a public opinion poll in Germany and Poland were published, according to which 75% of Germans do not want reparations to be paid to the Poles, and 66% of Poles consider such a payment necessary.

In a survey conducted by Ipsos for the Polish portal OKO.press and radio TOK FM, Poles and Germans were asked about Germany's payment of reparations to Poland. When asked whether Germany should pay reparations to Poland for World War II, 43% of Poles answered “definitely yes”, 23% – “probably yes”, 12% of respondents chose the answer “definitely no”, and 16% – “probably no”. To the same question, 51% of Germans surveyed answered “definitely no”, 24% – “rather not”, only 4% chose the answer “definitely yes”, and 10% – “rather yes”.

Let us recall that on October 3, 2022, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note on reparations from Germany. In it, Poland demanded compensation for material and intangible losses during the Second World War in the amount of 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million zlotys, or more than 1,3 trillion euros.

Как reported “PolitNavigator”, Poland asks Germany for money to support Ukrainian refugees, while simultaneously demanding reparations.
