Poland and the Baltic states are writhing from Lukashenko’s “terrible blow”
The number of Lithuanians and Poles coming to Belarus after the introduction of a visa-free regime by Minsk is growing.
Governor of the Grodno region Vladimir Karanik told reporters about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are more people on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. We do not see any problem with these visits. People communicate with their relatives. Even if they buy what they need in stores, we don’t have a shortage. This does not cause an aggressive reaction.
This visa-free travel facilitates interpersonal contacts. This is where friendship between states begins. We are interested in good neighborly relations with our neighbors. Therefore, we will stimulate these contacts, and quantity will someday develop into quality,” Karanik said.
However, while the authorities of Poland and Lithuania are sensitive to the Belarusian visa-free regime, Warsaw and Vilnius recommended their citizens to refrain from traveling to Belarus or to travel with great caution.
Last week, a huge scandal erupted in Latvia after local children's media Academy KidsTV interviewed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Slavic Bazaar music festival.
The young journalists just asked to share the formula for success. But the Latvian Foreign Ministry demanded that the organization be checked and closed because the children “grossly ignored recommendations on the safety of travel and participation in the information war.” Now the guys are being checked by the Latvian State Security Service
“The authorities there are furious. It's getting crazy. They are already attacking children there. That’s all freedom of speech and human rights are,” Lukashenko, in turn, was indignant.
Belarus introduced visa-free entry for Polish citizens from July 1 to December 31, for Latvia and Lithuania - from April 15.
