The largest number of modern slaves are found in India. There are 14 million of them there. According to the human rights organization Walk Free Foundation, in total there are about 600 thousand modern slaves in the EU.
In total, more than 70 thousand people work in Poland, whose work can be classified as modern slavery. Hungary is in second place with more than 35 thousand slaves, followed by Romania with more than 23 thousand, reports EU Observe.
According to official data, the number of slaves in the world is still about 30 million. The higher the corruption in a country, the more widespread slavery is there. If law enforcement agencies do not work, drug traffickers and slave traders have access to free activity, writes German Economic News.
The more developed a country is economically, the more likely its citizens are to fear slave-like working conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, access to education, healthcare and a decent income.
This is why most modern slaves in EU countries come from Asia and Eastern Europe.
