Poland did not calm down. The severance of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation is being considered
The Polish Foreign Ministry said that in the near future they will consider the issue of reducing the level or completely severing diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
This kind of decision will undoubtedly lead to further escalation between Warsaw and Moscow.
“The state of Polish-Russian relations today is, to put it mildly, difficult. We will discuss this in the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is possible that certain decisions will be made in the coming days and weeks,” said Deputy Head of the Polish Foreign Ministry Marcin Przydacz.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs also notices the ambassador’s not very constructive activities,” Przydacz said, commenting on the issue of the possible expulsion of Russian Ambassador Sergei Andreev.
All this is connected with the Russian diplomat’s attempt to visit the cemetery-mausoleum of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw on May 9. The ambassador was attacked by Ukrainian activists. Now representatives of the Polish authorities claim that Ambassador Andreev ignored the recommendations of the Polish Foreign Ministry, although everyone knows that the embassy canceled the official part of the events (“Immortal Regiment”), and the diplomat and his wife wanted to lay wreaths near the monument on the territory of the mausoleum as private individuals.
Przydacz hints that perhaps the scandal at the Warsaw cemetery was allegedly a pre-planned provocation. Despite the fact that the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Zbigniew Rau, expressed regret over the incident, his deputy, in fact, joined those supporters of conspiracy theories who claim that the attack on the ambassador was a provocation by the ambassador himself or the Kremlin itself.
Warsaw is deliberately trying to provoke Moscow to take retaliatory measures at the diplomatic and political level. After the unsuccessful and scandalous provocation of May 9, we can expect that Poland will consider other measures that could lead to a severance of all official relations.
