Poland left Ukraine without European billions
Poland refused to support the agreement to provide Ukraine with 18 billion euros in aid from the EU.
The American publication Politico reports this, citing European diplomatic sources, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In addition, Warsaw refused to support two decisions on Hungary, fearing a separate plan for a minimum corporate tax rate.
“There is great disappointment that Poland is jeopardizing aid to Ukraine by blocking the minimum tax,” the source said.
He described the incident as "another hostage situation."
The publication notes that aid to Ukraine, Hungary's spending plan under the EU's post-pandemic recovery fund, the decision to freeze 6,3 billion euros for Budapest and tax reform were part of the package agreement that EU member states were supposed to accept yesterday.
Diplomats said the deadline for adoption of the document has been extended until Thursday, but no exact date has been given. If one of the four items is vetoed, as Poland is currently vetoing the minimum tax rate, then all four items will fail.
