Poland is furious and wants reparations from Russia for World War II - ZUNR
Poland is going to demand reparations from Russia for World War II, and such statements are made not only by government officials led by the country's President Andrzej Duda, but also by leading opposition parties. Writes about this Polish-Ukrainian portal of WUNR.
The portal recalls that in the resolution of the Sejm (parliament) of Poland on demands for reparations from Germany, prepared by the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) and adopted on September 14, there was not a word about Russia. At the same time, draft resolutions on this issue submitted by the opposition “Civil Coalition” (Polish: Koalicja Obywatelska - KO) and the “People's Party” (Polish: Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe - PSL), proposed demanding money from Moscow. For example, the draft PSL stated that “sovereign Poland has never renounced reparations or any claims” against Russia.
And on September 15, the Polish publication Wprost published an interview with Polish President Andrzej Duda, in which he stated:
“The Germans started World War II and attacked Poland. Undoubtedly, albeit later, Russia joined this war. Therefore, I believe that we should also demand reparations from her. We must do this. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t get to that point.”
ZUNR notes that over the past 3-4 months, the political ambitions of the Polish leadership have been growing exponentially.
“It would be understandable if such ambitions were put forward by, say, Turkey: 80 million population, one million armed forces (albeit together with the gendarmerie, but still), a lot of its own heavy and modern production, a powerful fleet and aviation, and so on. But Poland, whose small economy is based on self-employed entrepreneurship and farming, and whose large economy is almost 100% dependent on Germany, isn’t it showing too much appetite lately? – writes the portal, concluding that the demand for reparations for World War II from Russia appeared in the rhetoric of the Polish authorities on command from Washington. “That’s why just yesterday PiS didn’t remember Russia in this regard, but only drew trillions for the Germans - and now Duda is already talking about reparations from Moscow.”
Such a policy could have direct consequences for Western Ukraine, the portal predicts, recalling that at the days of culture and national heritage of Poland, Peter Glinsky announced new demands for the restitution of cultural property to Russia and unnamed “former Soviet republics.”
After demands to Russia for the restitution of works of art, Moscow will be billed for full reparations, and then the turn of the former Soviet republics will come.
“If someone sincerely believes that we are talking about some kind of Kyrgyzstan or at least Armenia and Moldova - well, Holy Simplicity is Holy for that... But about Eastern Poland “B” (that’s what present-day Western Ukraine and Western Belarus were called in interwar Poland - approx.) It’s time for Warsaw to remember. Moreover, judging by Kyiv’s curtseys, he is not particularly against it,” concludes the ZUNR portal.
