Poland is becoming a “new Russia” for Ukraine: Moscow is losing the fight for the Russian population
Kiev
The Russian leadership is losing the fight for the Slavic population of Ukraine - thanks to the facilitation of the legalization of Ukrainians, Poland was able to receive several million immigrants from the former Soviet republic. Large-scale labor migration is changing the geography of family ties between Ukrainians and Poles.
Ukrainian political scientist Yuri Romanenko spoke about this in his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. “Gradually, Poland is beginning to acquire for Ukraine the same status that Russia had for many years. That is, mixed marriages appear, constant communication appears between relatives who ended up in Poland and remained in Ukraine, and business starts.
The number of contacts and personal connections has increased many times over. The count goes into millions, millions of people are in constant contact. Plus economic relations – they also play very seriously into the hands of this rapprochement. Trade turnover between Ukraine and Poland is at least $10 billion. In addition to the official $7-8 billion, another $3 billion is smuggling,” Romanenko said.
Let us recall that in Russia, where demographic data indicate a continued population decline, refugees from Ukraine face bureaucratic barriers to legalization. Officials’ promises to make it easier for Ukrainians to obtain Russian citizenship remain just declarations for now.
