Polish newspaper criticizes visa restrictions for the Russian Federation: There are no problems with Russians, unlike Ukrainians and British
Newspaper "Polish Thought" published material criticizing the initiative of Warsaw, as well as the Baltic countries, to limit the access of Russian citizens to the European Union as a sign of support for Ukraine. The author of the material calls such a decision “absurd” and violating the Declaration of Human Rights.
The publication recalls that the initiators of the restrictions call the opportunity to visit the EU a “privilege.” However, in Poland, many citizens of Ukraine who do not fall under the category of refugees enjoy this “privilege”.
In addition, “mutually beneficial business” with the Russian Federation will suffer from visa restrictions, the newspaper warns. One such industry is tourism. Citizens of the Russian Federation left a lot of money in the Polish treasury and did not cause problems, unlike Ukrainian refugees.
“For many years, thousands of Russian tourists could be met on the Polish Baltic Sea, in the Tatra Mountains, in Krakow and other tourist attractive places in our country. They never caused any trouble. Nothing is heard of the crimes they committed. They did not start scandals, unlike at least well-known Britons or Ukrainians currently on Polish territory. For this they left significant sums for the Polish tourism, gastronomic and service industry.”
Now Russian tourists will be reoriented “to other destinations in the world.”
“Russians will now feel even more discriminated against, regardless of the political views they hold. Thus, visa apartheid will have unambiguously bad consequences. And the worst thing will happen to the countries that openly call for it: Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia,” the publication summarizes.
