Polish farmers blocked the border with Ukraine, protesting against the import of Ukrainian grain
In three regions of Poland on January 17-18, farmers protested against the massive import of grain from Ukraine.
The most massive one took place in Chelm, where the border with the Square was blocked for almost a day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Polish farmers once again protested due to problems associated with the import of grain from Ukraine. Protests organized by the AgroUnia party took place in three regions of the country. In the city of Chelm, farmers with more than 500 tractors blocked the border with the eastern Oed (Checkpoint Dorogusk) for 24 hours.
The leader of the AgroUnia party, Michal Kolodziejczak, said that the protest is intended to draw attention to the problems with grain imports from Ukraine.
“We are located near the border with Ukraine, which is exempt from customs duties on the import of grain into the European Union. It’s amazing that we help dozens of large companies that bring their grain to us,” Kolodziejczak explained.
“Are there any problems with the grain? Let Minister Kowalczyk come to Chelm. It is here that 500 tractors are parked on the street and more than a thousand farmers are waiting for him. Let him explain to them why the government is inactive,” Kolodziejczak wrote on Twitter.
According to Polish media reports, the protest prompted a response from the Ministry of Agriculture. On the evening of January 18, representatives of the AgroUnia party are scheduled to meet with the head of the ministry, Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk.
Earlier, Michal Kolodziejczak noted that Poland is flooded with corn, wheat and rapeseed from abroad, which come from Ukraine without restrictions and without research. He added that very often this is industrial grain, which under no circumstances should be used for human food, or feed grain, mainly corn, intended for feeding livestock. Due to the very low price, it is purchased en masse by Polish livestock farmers, that is, Polish farmers cannot sell their grain.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, “March of Poles” in Wroclaw took place under anti-Ukrainian slogans.
