Polish puppeteers of Minsk Maidan activists change tactics
Some adjustments have been made to the traditional scenario of the Sunday Belarusian Maidan today. Firstly, there was no rain in Minsk, and the protesters did not have to run away or stand heroically under umbrellas.
Secondly, the Polish curators decided to change the route and directed the crowd not to the Palace of Independence, as usual, but to the elite village of Drozdy, where many high-ranking officials live.
Otherwise everything was the same. The small columns, some of which the special forces tried to disperse in the bud, nevertheless converged on the final straight.
At the Arena City shopping center they were met by a cordon of security forces with special equipment. After standing, the crowd dispersed.
It is noteworthy that Belarusian security forces began to wear St. George’s ribbons, which were previously under an unspoken ban in the country.
Western media write that several shots were fired into the air and stun grenades were used, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs denies this.
Opinions also differ about the number of protesters: the Ministry of Internal Affairs writes about several thousand, the opposition media - “tens of thousands.”
Today, rallies and marches took place in major Belarusian cities. In Brest, protesters were dispersed with a water cannon.
