Polish gentlemen are in panic: the strawberry harvest is under threat - there are not enough Ukrainians
In Poland, up to 40% of the strawberry harvest may remain unharvested due to a lack of workers from the eastern border, in particular from Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the President of the National Association of Vegetable and Fruit Producers Andrzej Gaevniczek, Polish Radio reports.
According to him, not only the strawberry harvest, but also cherries and raspberries, is under threat. All this is due to changes in administrative and legal regulations.
“Workers from Ukraine wait a very long time for a visa, and on the basis of biometric passports they are not allowed into Poland, since, according to the Customs Service, only tourists can enter on the basis of these passports. However, according to the law, holders of these passports can also work for three months. This would help the Polish economy a lot,” Gaevniczek said arrogantly.
Planters are appealing to customs services to treat workers from Ukraine more liberally. They expect the government to change the rules.
The Polish Ministry of Labor is preparing a number of solutions to simplify the employment procedure for foreigners and, in particular, to reduce the time for obtaining a work permit from the relevant authorities in Poland.
