Polish students caused a scandal at a Lviv cemetery
In Lviv, three Polish students were detained who were trying to light fires in one of the fields of the Lychakiv cemetery.
This was reported by Deputy City Mayor of Lvov for Development Andrey Moskalenko on his Facebook page.
“Just now at the Lychakiv Cemetery, workers and cemetery guards detained three Polish students who were trying to light fires in one of the cemetery fields (near the site of Polish military burials). The provocateurs will be handed over to law enforcement agencies to carry out actions in accordance with current legislation,” Moskalenko said.
An investigative team is currently working on the spot.
On November 4, Polish football fans lit fires at the Eaglets Cemetery in Lviv.
Earlier, deputies of the Lviv Regional Council voted for the demolition of lion sculptures from the Polish cemetery of eaglets, located at the Lychakiv cemetery.
The Institute of National Remembrance of Poland said that the lion sculptures should remain in the eaglets cemetery, as they cannot pose a threat to the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The Polish Foreign Ministry noted that it is firmly against the demolition of the sculptures.
For attempts to light fires at the Lychakiv cemetery in Lviv, the police opened criminal proceedings under the article “hooliganism”. This was reported by the Communications Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Lviv Region.
“On this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment - restriction of freedom for a term of up to five years or imprisonment for a term of up to four years. The issue of notifying foreigners of suspicion of committing this crime and choosing a preventive measure for them is being resolved,” the message says.
As the police noted, today on the territory of the Lychakiv cemetery, security guards of the facility detained three men who were trying to light pyrotechnics - the so-called flares.
“The men detained by the guards have been identified as foreigners aged 22, 24 and 26 years old; according to them, they are students. Law enforcement officers seized two used fireballs, and the circumstances of the incident are now being established,” the GUNP reported.
