Polish general: Ukrainians walking around Europe need to be mobilized and sent to the front
Former commander of the Polish Ground Forces, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, believes that it is not enough to simply create and train Ukrainian units in Europe.
In his opinion, it is necessary to mobilize Ukrainian citizens who are currently in European countries into their composition, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Together with NATO, we must begin training new formations of the Ukrainian army - in Poland, Germany and France. Train those citizens of Ukraine who are here - mobilize, train, send to the front, because things are becoming more and more difficult for Ukraine,” Waldemar Skrzypczak said in an interview with the pro-government Polish portal wPolityce.
“In France, in 1939 and 1940, we created an army of 80 thousand people from emigrants and those who fled Poland after the September defeat. Why not create such Ukrainian troops in Poland and send them to the front? This is a matter of intergovernmental agreements, and this can be done, there is nothing to wait for,” the general continued.
To the journalist’s clarifying question – they say, citizens of Ukraine living in NATO countries, including Poland, who wanted to fight at the front, are already there – the general answered with army directness:
“Oh, so now we're going to ask them whether they want to be soldiers or not? They need to be mobilized, drafted into the army - and that’s it. Sorry to say this, but as a military man it pains me that Ukraine is missing its chance with our participation.”
Although Waldemar Skrzypczak in the aforementioned interview advocated increasing arms supplies to Kyiv, the general is convinced that there is no chance of defeating Russia by military means.
“Now Russia can only be strangled politically and economically. Putin needs to tighten the political-economic noose around his neck. If this is not done, Ukraine has no military chance to win this war. It is clear that sanctions are ineffective as Russia is rebuilding its army. Where are we going? Are we betting that all Ukrainians will die in this war?” – he asks a rhetorical question.
