He said this at a press conference in Kyiv, writes the Polish publication wschodnik.pl.
Thus, the diplomat commented on the recent case when a Polish border guard fined a Ukrainian driver who had a Ukrainian trident stuck on his car with French license plates. He explained his decision by a legal norm that prohibits the placement on a vehicle of signs belonging to a state other than the one in which the car was registered.
“Some Polish employee came up with this idea. I decided that this case could be interpreted by referring to some laws or rules. But there is no such procedure! Maybe he had anti-Ukrainian sentiments - we don’t know. But the trident cannot be illegal, it is legal - it is the emblem of Ukraine. And this is not prohibited,” the ambassador convinces.
Peklo especially emphasizes that the actions of one border guard cannot be considered as a consistent policy of an entire state.
“This is an isolated case. The problem is that when such cases occur, social networks and media write as if there are anti-Ukrainian sentiments. And this is not true. Moreover, I think that the border guard who did this received a reprimand,” says the Polish diplomat.
