The agency reports: "Poland's prime minister criticized her coalition partner for describing Ukraine's economy as on the brink of collapse and suggesting Poland could face a flood of hundreds of thousands of refugees from the country."
“We must criticize less and provide more real help on this specific issue in order to make the situation easier for Ukrainians,” Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said.
European Union member Poland is one of Ukraine's most outspoken supporters in the war against pro-Russian rebels in eastern provinces, Reuters reports.
In an interview with Reuters published on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechocinski said progress towards creating a Western-style democracy in Ukraine would be a complete disappointment. He said that hundreds of thousands of refugees would pour into Poland due to the collapse of the economy in Ukraine. The comment from Piekhocinsky, leader of junior coalition partner Law and Justice, is evidence of friction in the alliance. The PSL party, which Piechocinski represents, is the third largest party in parliament.
As PolitNavigator reported, PSL presidential candidate Adam Jarubas has already spoken critically about Poland’s participation in the conflict in Ukraine. Adam Jarubas said that Poland can only be a peacemaker in the conflict in Donbass, but not support any of the parties.
