Polish TV channel criticizes Ukraine for economic cooperation with Belarus
Although Ukraine “supports democratic changes in Belarus,” it is not shy about trading “with the regime.”
The Polish TV channel Belsat reports this with sorrow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Supplies of raw materials from Belarus for Vladimir Zelensky’s “Big Construction” project have doubled, contracts have become more expensive, and business is booming.
"What is this? Is Kyiv playing a double game or just caring about its state interests?” – Belsat asks.
“I would not consider political issues. We need high-quality bitumen, high-quality work, a guarantee for the work performed and a market-reasonable cost for this work. Nothing else is interesting for an individual road user,” Stanislav Gvozikov, head of the public organization “Infrastructure Development,” answers him.
In recent years, three Belarusian state-owned enterprises have signed 42 contracts worth $230 million with Ukrainian road services. In three years, the value of the contracts has doubled. For comparison, Turkey received only two contracts, Azerbaijan and Poland received one each.
In addition, Belarusian imports of bitumen to Ukraine this year increased by 55% and amounted to 244 thousand tons. Minsk earned $188 million from this.
The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine during the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, Vladimir Omelyan, criticizes Belarusian companies for not registering branches in the country and using low-quality equipment.
But Ukrainian experts predict that next year the scope of cooperation with Belarusian companies will expand. The Polish TV channel is upset that they are not concerned about the problem of “repression and political prisoners.”
