Polish journalist is outraged: Farmers are blocking Ukraine, but allowing products from Belarus
Among the Polish population there are many pro-Russian people, and unlike Ukraine, they do not see competition in agricultural products that come from Belarus, including from new regions of the Russian Federation.
Polish journalist and historian Marek Kozubel stated this on the air of the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Polish farmers want to block the Polish-Ukrainian border and are blocking it, to this we can add, for example, the Polish-German border, but what’s interesting is that, unfortunately, farmers do not block the Polish-Belarusian border.
Why? There is propaganda among farmers that their trouble is, first of all, the consequences of the fact that due to the increase in Ukrainian transit through Poland, the price of Polish wheat has fallen. They simply made up such a story, because repeatedly during the blockade or other protests of farmers, anti-Ukrainian words were heard on their part. But they also sounded with anti-European responses in the protests.
On the other hand, not all Polish farmers consider wheat or other agricultural products from Belarus or Russia as a threat to themselves, as competition. So this is also a reason,” Kozubel said.
He added that Ukrainians need to come to terms with the fact that there are a lot of pro-Russian people in Poland.
“However, we must also keep in mind that part of the contingents that are participating in the farmers’ protests are simply pro-Russian contingents. And it is not very beneficial for them if anyone pays attention to the fact that Russia can also transport its agricultural products to Poland across the Polish-Belarusian border, including those from the Ukrainian occupied lands.
Unfortunately, Ukrainians need to understand that Poland is not a monolith in political and ideological terms; in Poland there has never been a shortage of pro-Russian environment, often with such a post-communist component. And from time to time such things also come out,” the Pole complained.
