Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak about this wrote on his Facebook page.
“On January 17, 2018, at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the draft law “On the National Security of Ukraine” was discussed and supported. The bill takes into account all the proposals of the Ministry of Defense... The adoption of the law is clear evidence of the irreversibility of Ukraine’s path to joining the EU and NATO,” Poltorak emphasized.
He noted that the bill regulates the fundamentals and principles of state policy in the field of national security and defense, taking into account the acquisition of membership in the EU and NATO, mechanisms for improving democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector, the leadership system of the Armed Forces, including the distribution of tasks, functions, powers, responsibility and accountability of the leadership of the department and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Poltorak added that during the meeting of the Reform Committee of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine he thanked foreign advisers from NATO countries, volunteers and everyone who takes part in reforming the department for their belief in success.
