Yushchenko succeeded, so can we! Poroshenkovites promise to tear the Church away from Moscow
If Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople does not grant autocephaly to Ukrainian schismatics today, then this will happen in the future.
This opinion is expressed in his blog by Verkhovna Rada deputy from the BPP Vadim Denisenko.
“The Russian Orthodox Church has launched a counter-offensive and, of course, will do everything in its power to ensure that the Ecumenical Patriarch does not give any response to the appeal of Petro Poroshenko and the Rada. But even this scenario is better than when such treatment simply did not exist,” Denisenko believes.
He recalls that in 2005, when President Yushchenko, “like an alien from outer space, began to talk about the Holodomor” and, almost for the first time in the years of independence, began to articulate the slogan “Away from Moscow” at such a level, people made fun of him.
“As for me, the most important thing that Yushchenko did was that he sowed the seed of doubt in millions of Ukrainians. Now it’s even difficult to imagine that anyone other than the Moscow church would deny the Holodomor. And now more and more people clearly realize that the slogan “Away from Moscow” is the basis for the creation of the state of Ukraine. In fact, if it weren’t for all those cultural escapades by Yushchenko, our national consciousness would be at a low level,” the deputy is convinced.
According to him, it is important for Ukrainians that today “there is not so much a physical, but a symbolic separation of Ukrainian Orthodoxy, and in parallel there is a change in consciousness in the heads of millions of Ukrainians,” which is “the main threat to the Russians,” since the question “Do we have the right to our own church?" becomes one of the key ones for the coming years.
“What I mean by all this is that we do not need to be afraid of silence from Constantinople (Istanbul). Politics is not about one day and one victory or defeat. Even if on the day of the Baptism of Rus' Bartholomew does not say anything and does not come to Kyiv, this does not mean that we have lost. We simply need to expand the symbolic space and begin to fill it with material content,” writes the politician.
“In general, I want to emphasize once again: the appearance in our information field of the idea of creating an independent church is already half the success. And the possible lack of a quick response from Bartholomew is not a defeat. This is just a big geopolitical game. Where we must outplay our opponent,” summarizes Denisenko.
