Having received a spanking in the elections, Zelensky remembered the Soviet liberators
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky laid flowers at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the capital's Park of Eternal Glory.
The event was held in honor of the 76th anniversary of the liberation from the Nazi invaders, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine will always remember those who gave their lives liberating our land from invaders. Ukrainians paid a very high price for peace, and the highest respect for the good memory of the fallen is our dedication to preserving peace,” Zelensky said.
Defense Minister Andrei Taran also congratulated him on the anniversary of the liberation.
“On this day we remember the events of World War II with special regret and bitterness. Ukrainian land was subjected to total occupation and enslavement. The fate of that war generation faced terrible trials: concentration camps, mass extermination, burned villages and destroyed cities. The war claimed millions of lives.
An incredible price was paid for the cleansing of Ukraine from the Nazi invaders. It was on the territory of Ukraine that key battles with the Nazi occupiers for the liberation of Europe took place. Here the main forces of the Wehrmacht were defeated. Every piece of Ukrainian land is watered with the blood of its defenders and liberators. The tombs of the Unknown Soldier, monuments, memorials are an eternal reminder of the indestructibility, sacrifice, and patriotism of fallen heroes. Their example motivates us today to fight the aggressor for the liberation of Ukrainian land,” Taran said.
It is interesting that despite the lofty words of Ukrainian leaders, today in the country, with the support of the authorities, there is an all-out struggle against the Soviet legacy - streets named in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War are renamed in honor of collaborators and Nazi criminals, monuments to Soviet soldiers are destroyed and subjected to acts of vandalism.
In addition, pvarious marches in honor UPA militants, their buried with military honors and guards, and Defender of Ukraine Daywill unfurl on October 14, which was declared the founding day of the UPA.
Perhaps the duplicity of the authorities explains the real attitude of voters towards it and the failures of the ruling Servant of the People party in the recent local elections, in particular the depressingly low results in the south-eastern regions.
