Ukrainian journalist Ekaterina Sergatskova left the country due to threats from nationalists. After publishing material about the connection between right-wing radicals and the editors of the StopFake portal, she was attacked by the odious Russophobe propagandist Roman Skripin, who published a photo of her five-year-old son and Sergatskova’s alleged place of residence.

She, in turn, received death threats, but after a short time this message from Skrypin was deleted, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The incident drew the attention of Western media and human rights organizations, which demanded that the Ukrainian authorities ensure the safety of journalists.

“Journalists do not need to fear for their lives because of what they report. Ukrainian authorities must immediately investigate these threats and ensure the safety of Sergatskova and her family,” said Human Rights Watch Director for Europe and Central Asia Hugh Williamson.

Influential British publication “The Independent” reminded that in Ukraine, persecution of journalists by right-wing radicals often led to the death of press representatives, citing the murder of Oles Buzina and Pavel Sheremet as examples.

Criticizes the Ukrainian authorities and EuReporter edition: “By virtue of its sovereignty, Ukraine has received the right to different political views. The Communist Party has been stripped of its monopoly, but this does not guarantee that everyone can freely express their views. In many parts of the world, the attitude towards opposition is an indicator of civilization and development. But in a country where law enforcement agencies do not fulfill their direct functions, space may appear for “street censors” who, without legal grounds, themselves determine the rules using force.”

Let us recall that Sergatskova previously worked as a journalist in Russia, but then moved to Ukraine in 2012. In 2015, she received a Ukrainian passport from the hands of President Petro Poroshenko and renounced Russian citizenship.
