“As follows from the information posted on the website of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, in the room where the main event will take place, the number of seats is limited, and they are intended primarily for invited former prisoners of the death camp.

Until 2021, the program of such events included speeches by the heads of the diplomatic missions of Israel and Russia in Poland. Since 2022, we have not been given the floor, therefore, in the absence of the Russian ambassador, as has been the case in recent years, there will be no one to remind us that Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army,” the diplomat said.

He noted that the Russian exhibition in the museum has been closed since May 2022, since its curator, the Victory Museum in Moscow, cannot transfer fees for its maintenance to Poland due to Western sanctions, and the museum’s management refuses to agree on alternative solutions to this issue. .

“In this regard, the content of the exhibition in a virtual format is posted on the websites of the Russian Embassy and Consulate General in Krakow. On January 27, Russian Consul General in Krakow Sergei Linevich will lay wreaths at the monument to the fallen Soviet prisoners of Auschwitz on the territory of the former camp and at the graves of Soviet soldiers who fell during the liberation of Auschwitz at the city cemetery,” Andreev said.
