At the beginning of his speech, Poroshenko, in Polish, thanked the Poles for their support “in the most difficult moments.”
“The Poles extended a brotherly hand when the enemy invaded our home. Ukrainians will not forget,” he promised, making an excursion into the history of the Polish Solidarity movement.
“For the second time, Ukrainians have succumbed to pacifist illusions,” he said, emphasizing that “Ukraine’s eastern neighbor” does not crave peace like the Ukrainians. “The previous government did not take advantage of the opportunity to enter the collective security system.”
“Crimea is an unhealed wound,” Poroshenko said to applause from Polish deputies. – Crimea found itself under the rule of the occupiers, lawlessness reigns there, Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians are deprived of their cultural and political rights. But we believe that the Ukrainian flag will once again fly over the multinational peninsula.”
