The Poles defiantly destroyed the monument-tombstone to the UPA militants
Polish nationalists destroyed a monument to UPA militants, erected 23 years ago by the Ukrainian diaspora at a cemetery in the village of Grushovichi near Przemysl. This was reported by the local resource Portalprzemyski.
According to the publication, the monument was erected without permission - illegally, and the city authorities approved its demolition.

“It was never a monument, it was an illegal structure, it threatens people’s lives, as evidenced by the fact how easily we were able to demolish it. We had to remove it for aesthetic reasons, such was the will of the majority of people, I think, not only our society, but also all Poles,” said the mayor of the Stubno commune, Janusz Stabicki.
He added that the elements of the destroyed monument will be distributed to everyone for the needs of construction.
Ukrainian “diasporans” have already expressed their indignation. They believe that the monument, which had previously been repeatedly desecrated by Polish nationalists, was demolished in response to Kiev’s intention to mark the 70th anniversary of Operation Vistula - the deportation of 140 thousand Ukrainians from the border with the USSR after World War II in Poland in order to eliminate the Bandera underground.
The association of Ukrainians in Poland protested the demolition of the monument to the UPA militants.
