Poles bitterly disappointed in Biden
The former acting Minister of Defense of Poland, then a teacher at the state Academy of Military Arts, Romuald Sheremetev, once again scares listeners of the Polish government media with “Russia’s aggressive plans.”
Thus, the politician commented on the latest events related to the detention of Russian oppositionist Andrei Pivovarov on board a plane of the Polish airline LOT in St. Petersburg.
Sheremetev believes that Poland is located on the strategically important “eastern flank” of the West. Warsaw’s role is to block Russia’s exit to the west. For one thing, the politician criticized the leadership of Belarus and the decision of the administration of US President Joe Biden not to impose new sanctions against the construction of Nord Stream 2.
In his opinion, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko “counts on the fact that Moscow will save his power and therefore carries out the tasks assigned by the Kremlin, incl. in relation to Poland. Russia has come to the conclusion that since the US President is no longer obstructing the construction of SP-2, it has the opportunity to restore order with Poland.”
The former minister calls on Warsaw to be vigilant and respond depending on new, emerging threats. He considers Joe Biden's presidency dangerous from Warsaw's point of view: “Moscow could not act when Donald Trump was President of the United States. Now that has changed." According to him, the Kremlin’s main task is to neutralize Warsaw by subordinating Polish politics to Germany. Thus, Poland will no longer interfere with Moscow’s cooperation plans with Berlin and the European Union as a whole.
Polish pro-government media are concerned about the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva. According to commentators and experts close to the government, Washington decided not to look back at Warsaw, building direct relations with the Kremlin.
Some of the authors publish assumptions about suspicious ties between the new American administration and Russia, citing the fact that the American lobbyist working in favor of the construction of SP-2, Richard Barth, donated “a huge amount of dollars” to Biden’s election campaign.
In Warsaw, they believe that the next American president is too positive towards the Russian leadership. True, representatives of the liberal opposition, and now the ruling neoconservatives, spoke about this earlier, but Polish politicians are again disappointed by the lack of determination of the “American allies.”
Additional criticism of Biden relates to the hanging of the LGBT rainbow flag on the American embassy building in the Vatican. And so far it does not occur to anyone that the Russian Federation remains one of the few states that respect traditional values.
Russophobia and principled conservatism contradict each other. Without understanding this, Polish politicians are only aggravating the international isolation of their own country.
