The Poles forced a resident of Lvov to apologize for Bandera in Russian
Residents of Poland were outraged by the flag of the Bandera UPA in a car with Lvov license plates and demanded that the visiting Ukrainian apologize, and in Russian.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Zhuravko talks about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It so happened in life that many of my friends from the Kherson region were forced to go abroad. And all for the sake of earning money to feed themselves and their families.
Today I want to share an interesting conversation. My friend works in Poland as a taxi driver. Moreover, he took his family out and is applying for permanent residence. His name is Ivan. For security reasons, I will not write his last name, for one reason that it has already become difficult to live in Poland. And also in Poland, the attitude towards Ukrainians has changed very much for the worse.
This is what he told me:
“When I take clients, I try to speak less Ukrainian. More and more people have to speak Russian. Especially when I drive young Poles, i.e. taxi passengers. If I carelessly start speaking Ukrainian, aggression immediately begins to appear on their part. That’s why I immediately switch to Russian. You won't believe it! This is the same situation on the street, in shops, at bus stops... Yes, in any public places in Poland.
They hate the red and black flag! For them, Ukraine is associated with fascists. They only talk about the actions of the Nazis in Ukraine. Here in Poland they show how Bandera and Shukhevych are glorified in Ukraine. I also want to tell you that living in Poland has become very scary for Ukrainians.
I'll tell you a recent incident. A car with Ukrainian license plates drove into our city. Inside, under the glass, was a red and black OUN-UPA flag, used today in Ukraine by the Right Sector and other Nazis.
So the Poles, when they saw this flag, they tried the wheels of the car. They waited until the owner of the car approached her, surrounded him, forced him to open the door, told the driver to pull out the black and red flag, pick it up, put the driver on his knees, and forced him to eat this flag.
How do you think? He ate this flag and also asked for forgiveness, saying that this would never happen again. What struck me was that he asked for forgiveness not in Ukrainian, but in Russian! Although the license plates on the car were Lviv.
I can say one thing: the Poles did not beat the driver, but everything happened harshly. I have such cases when often my clients who ask where I’m from, I answer them that I’m either from Belarus or from Russia. I'm afraid to say that I'm from Ukraine. Because there was an incident when I was almost beaten, but my shirt and sweater were torn on my body. I was just lucky, as a police patrol that was nearby quickly arrived.
I often go to Warsaw. This is where the attitude towards Ukrainians is especially noticeable. I tell everyone I meet from Ukraine to either speak Polish or Russian, otherwise you can get them by the scruff of the neck.
Poland has changed a lot. It was more or less until 2014. Now, however, it's getting a little scary. So, Alexey, soon they will hate us here too. I, as a person, feel sad.”
