The recently built memorial complex dedicated to the memory of Soviet soldiers who died in the battles near Rzhev is a must-visit place if you find yourself in those parts.

Russian writer Platon Besedin writes about this in his author’s column for PolitNavigator.

Do you know what I love? When everything is done correctly - according to the mind. When there are achievements - at different levels, personal and collective. But what else is important here? Talk about the good things that were planned and implemented. But in our country they only like to feed the people with horrors and problems, and will remain silent about the positive. Just in case.

Yes, the country is not without problems. But not without “done wisely”...

On the eve of May 9, many events are planned related to this great day. We're used to it. Sometimes, however, they go too far, sometimes they pour out unnecessary pathos, and sometimes they crush with stupid officialdom. However, what is necessary first? Provide access to iconic places.

I was in Stalingrad, Brest, Khatsuni, Khatyn, Kerch - Sevastopol is generally my homeland. And the feeling from these places is colossal. They simply change you as a person - they change you radically, as they say. You leave Mamayev Kurgan different. Visiting such places, as well as communicating with living veterans, is much more powerful and effective than any officialdom.

But how much more remains to be done and restored? They are trying.

Many were amazed - with a plus sign - by the new memorial in the city of Rzhev. The memory of thousands of victims was immortalized. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'm planning to soon. And many said when we talked about this memorial: “You can only go there by car, right?”

It was. But now - on the eve of the Victory Day celebrations, Lastochka trains from Moscow will fly directly to the Rzhev Memorial. They will rush from May 8 to May 10, and will also look into the wonderful Tver, Torzhok and Staritsa. To fully implement this idea, a new station and a platform for the Rzhevsky Memorial stop were built in record time and a comfortable transfer to buses was organized. Isn't it wonderful? It would always be so, as they say.

And, in my opinion, if you are in Moscow or somewhere nearby, then it’s great to go to the Parade and to visit the Rzhev Memorial on a smaller scale. It's right to be in such places. And on the eve of May 9th it is simply obligatory to be there. For awareness. This is the best vaccine against unconsciousness.
