Ivan Shimonovich reported this to the Ukrainian agency UNN.
“I am particularly interested in several issues, in addition to participating in the launch of the National Strategy for Human Rights; on September 29 there will be a debate in the Human Rights Council on the situation in Ukraine, so my task will be to assess the state of human rights in Ukraine,” explained Shimonovich .
Regarding his agenda, from the evening of September 21 to 25, he will stay in the Donbass, where he plans to meet with representatives of the DPR and LPR.
“I am going to Donbass on Monday evening and will return on Friday, so all my meetings have not yet been confirmed, but I definitely plan to visit those territories controlled by armed groups,” added the UN assistant secretary general.
Among the issues in the field of human rights, Ivan Shimonovich intends to discuss obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid from Ukrainian checkpoints.
“I am concerned about the obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid, so I will raise this issue,” he added.
“Fortunately, we now have a successful ceasefire, which I hope will continue. “I am now discussing with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, and hopefully also talking with representatives of armed groups, so that in future reports we can provide not only the number of deaths, but also report what caused the death and who likely should be held responsible for it,” he added.
Ivan Shimonovich added that such a detailed report could prevent the resumption of fire on the contact line. In his next report, he plans to not only provide figures for civilian casualties, but also point out those responsible.
