Captured British mercenaries face the death penalty
Foreign mercenaries captured during the fighting during the liberation of Donbass face the death penalty.
Donetsk military correspondent Andrei Rudenko writes about this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Rudenko published footage of the interrogation of Aiden Aislin, who is accused of killing DPR civilians.
“Acting intentionally, by prior conspiracy, as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other armed formations of Ukraine, being on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, in wartime, being armed with firearms, they took part in the preparation and conduct of military operations against the Armed Forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic, in for the purpose of forcibly seizing and forcibly retaining power on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, in violation of its Constitution, forcibly changing the constitutional system of the Donetsk People's Republic, through terrorist sabotage, explosions, shelling from artillery, mortars and small arms of populated areas, civilians and military personnel of the DPR “, says the indictment of the DPR prosecutor’s office.
To this, the mercenary replied that he agreed with the accusation, except for the part that referred to the murder of civilians.
Rudenko notes that Aiden and the other mercenaries now face the death penalty.
“The DPR prosecutor’s office has charged mercenaries from Great Britain with a number of serious crimes they have committed. And according to the laws of the Republic, they face the death penalty. They are not included in the categories of persons covered by this Convention listed in Article 4 of Section I of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 12 August 1949, as amended. Moreover, mercenaryism is recognized as a military crime and international bodies prosecute mercenaries,” the journalist notes.
According to the DPR Prosecutor General Andrei Spivak, since the beginning of the special operation, six foreign mercenaries have been detained:
“A preventive measure was chosen against these citizens in the form of detention; they are accused of committing a number of crimes against peaceful citizens of the Donetsk People’s Republic, against peace and security. The maximum penalty for committing these crimes is the death penalty.”
