“Before the daddy”: The United States did not forgive Zelensky for trying to meet with Putin
The United States is not going to hold consultations with Ukraine in the near future, including on Nord Stream 2, because the Ukrainian authorities, having not worked out the concept of interaction with the new American leadership, began to talk about the need to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The participants of the broadcast on the TV channel “UA: First” spoke about this, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“The question arises, has the US Secretary of State discussed with President Zelensky President Biden’s position regarding the temporary or non-application of sanctions to the consortium that is building Nord Stream 2? And in general, were there any consultations with the president on this matter?” – said former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Lana Zerkal.
“Because in the report that was presented by the State Department to Congress, there is no mention of Ukraine holding consultations in May of this year. It is recalled that in February consultations were still held with Ukraine, and already in May Ukraine was not on the list of countries that would consult with the United States,” she explained.
“Unfortunately, this is a significant flaw that we have no right to allow, because we must exercise our presence and conduct consultations with the EU, and with various EU countries, and the United States. Here we need to take a very active part and directly convince the US leadership at the highest political level that the application of sanctions and stopping the completion of the construction of Nord Stream 2 is, first of all, a security condition for us,” Zerkal said.
In turn, the ex-ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus Roman Bessmertny noted that it was very reckless on Kyiv’s part to make any decisions without consultation with the United States.
“After the election of Pan Biden as President in the United States, initiatives appeared (of Ukraine - ed.) that were so wrong that they could shake bilateral relations. Imagine, the inauguration has just taken place there, and they say from Kyiv - we want to meet with Putin.
When I watched this visit of the US Secretary General and how worried the Ukrainian leaders were, it seemed to me that this visit was in order to explain to Kyiv - are you in your right mind? You have not worked out the concept of interaction with Washington and are already running to Moscow, which since August has been blocking the work of the TCG, Normandy, and so on,” Bessmertny said.
