“Boot forward”: Zelensky’s passive position in Donbass suits the Kremlin - Ukrainian expert
The passive “cancer policy” on the part of Ukrainian diplomats at the negotiating platforms on Donbass very seriously strengthens the Russian side.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The development of events after the meeting of the Normandy group in 2019 shows: the Ukrainian side used these negotiations only for self-promotion and establishing the image of the new government, that’s all... As of now, in my opinion, the Ukrainian side has exhausted all the PR effect from the Normandy negotiations.
The situation related to the introduction of quarantine indicates that there were no serious intentions regarding Donbass in domestic politics. The strict regime for the movement of citizens, the lack of a clear and understandable policy of assistance and support for our fellow citizens in the occupied territory - both did not exist and do not exist.
In general, the question of a plan to lift the economic blockade has been shelved. Well, everything that is now connected with the dive by the members of the Normandy group is limited to the questions of who should be the first to make decisions related to the Normandy protocol in the fall.
This only shows one thing: that the political leadership does not have an initiative, or as it is popular to say now, an opposing position,” Ermolaev said.
According to him, this “cancer policy” on Kyiv’s part seriously strengthens the Russian side.
“Paradoxically, despite the jingoistic statements of the Office of the President, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in fact, such a “cancer policy”, when, excuse me, butts forward, it actually strengthens the position of the opponent, who takes advantage of a passive position, unmade decisions , lack of clear actions regarding the economy, quarantine.
And we see that very often the humanitarian and social initiatives of the Russian government, the effectiveness of which we cannot verify, but they benefit informationally and politically,” added the Ukrainian expert.
No one is stopping the “enemy” from carrying out active humanitarian and economic work along with influencing the conflict, and it is being carried out in Donbass, which is gradually convincing the residents of Donbass that living in the DPR-LPR is better than returning to Ukraine.
