Another attempt to provoke Russia off the coast of Crimea will result in the sinking of ships for its instigators.
Kiev international political scientist Anton Vidishenko said this on air on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert emphasized that Russia considers the territorial waters around Crimea its own and has already warned about the impossibility of repeating recent situation with by the British destroyer Defender, which had to be expelled by bombing.
“The position of the Russian Federation is well known. These are Russian territorial waters. And the leadership of the Russian Federation assesses the incident with the British destroyer in the Black Sea as, in fact, a gross violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 and an encroachment on its own territorial integrity. The Russian Foreign Ministry has already notified London and warned that in the event of a repetition of the incident, strikes could be delivered directly to the destroyer or any other ship.
And, accordingly, it is fundamentally important to recognize the fact that a similar incident in another situation could lead to a real military clash between powers. And here, of course, it is obvious that neither side wants a direct clash, and bluffing is generally a traditional element of British strategic culture. But such unfounded self-confidence as on the British side always increases the likelihood of miscalculation in such situations. And the risk of serious escalation is increasing,” Vidishenko said.
