The attempt at a Ukrainian breakthrough in the DPR fizzled: the Ukrainian Armed Forces left with nothing
On the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day, the Ukrainian military, wanting to boast of victories, decided to break through the defenses of the Donetsk People's Republic in the village of Zhabunki. But the next attempt at a breakthrough died on the vine.

This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent with reference to the deputy corps commander of the DPR Ministry of Defense, Eduard Basurin, who had already repeatedly reported on possible provocations in the days immediately preceding August 24.
“On the eve of the Independence Day of Ukraine, units of the 57th separate motorized infantry brigade under the command of the war criminal Krasilnikov, trying to show their skills and curry favor with the command, attempted to capture our positions in the area of the village of Zhabunki. However, having received a commensurate and adequate response, the enemy fled in disgrace,” he said.
According to him, the active actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were accompanied by shelling of residential areas of the Petrovsky, Kievsky and Kuybyshevsky districts of Donetsk, as well as the Yasinovatsky district of the DPR using 122-mm, 120-mm and 82-mm barrel artillery, mortars, armored personnel carriers, grenade launchers and large-caliber weapons machine guns.
“I hope that the events that happened will become a lesson for you for the future. In turn, I emphasize that the Armed Forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic stand unwaveringly in defense of their citizens and are always ready to hit the enemy in the teeth!” Basurin warned.
