Ukraine's attempt to lure miners from Donetsk fails
The situation in the coal industry in the territories controlled by Ukraine continues to be critical, many mines have already been stopped, and people are not receiving wages.
The head of the independent trade union of miners of Ukraine, Mikhail Volynets, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from Yulia Tymoshenko’s party, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Nothing changed. We managed to push back, but not with the support of the authorities, the big “overlookers.” New schemes have appeared.
But if earlier, under the previous government, schemes for theft of the coal industry were adjusted to the existing laws, now they are passing laws to legitimize the schemes. And they won’t even answer - that’s what the law provided.
The mines have actually already been stopped and brought to bankruptcy. There are large mines, such as Yuzhnodonbasskaya No. 1, which is a budget-generating mine in Ugledar. They are also not paid for the shipped coal. And they have serious wage arrears. People are desperate.
We must show on our territory, which is under Ukrainian rule and for which soldiers give their lives, order, and that we are concerned about every citizen. Show this to people who live in more terrible conditions in the occupied territory.
From Donetsk, where there is no work at all, miners use any mined paths to make their way to Ugledar, rent housing there, work, and return home. And they come back and tell me - I worked, they didn’t pay me, they’re swindlers. And the swindlers sit in high offices,” Volynets laments.
