An attempt to hush up the story of the Euromaidan snipers turned out to be a failure
The scandal that erupted in Ukraine due to the arrest and release after pressure from nationalists of Euromaidan militant Ivan Bubenchik, who admitted to killing Berkut fighters in the back of the head, may have a secret background.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Bubenchik case is notable for raising the question of why they tried to bring Bubenchik himself to justice. There was no attempt to bring him to justice for his participation in the Maidan or even for the murder of police officers. Under these articles in Ukraine, in accordance with the amnesty law, thousands of people escaped responsibility.
They tried to bring Bubenchik to justice for allegedly disrupting the truce between the protesters and the authorities, which had been established at that time. Allegedly, he maliciously fired from a machine gun from the Conservatory and killed unarmed law enforcement officers in order to escalate the conflict, which later led to the massacre at Institutskaya, and had an effect on the events in Crimea and Donbass.
This is not a classic case of a Maidan activist; it could not have arisen just like that. It seems to me that behind this matter is the search by the elites (or their external managers) for ways out of the current crisis.
This is a very convenient interpretation, which allows us to remove all responsibility for the loss of life, destruction, and everything that happened in Ukraine, both from Maidan supporters and from the previous government.
Many talked about the mythical “third force” that carried out the massacre on the Maidan. Here is a person’s testimony that confirms this version - that neither the protesters nor the authorities were interested in the bloody massacre on the Maidan.
This is a way out for Ukraine to achieve social stability, reconciliation between East and West, and consolidation of political elites.
It seemed to me that someone was testing this option to see if people, society, and government were ready for it. The authorities have shown that they are not ready, they are afraid of right-wing radicals. So far, such consolidation tools cannot work,” says Bortnik.
