It’s time to realize that no one in the world owes us anything - Ukrainian diplomat
Ukraine needs to understand that the world does not revolve around it alone, and each country has its own interests.
Ukrainian diplomat Oleg Bai said this on the air of the Ya-UA Internet channel, commenting on the recent call of Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to stop seeing the world in only two colors – black and white. We need to see the whole gamut, including halftones, and understand that, by and large, maybe it’s not very pleasant for us to feel and understand, but by and large, no one owes us anything. The only thing is that now, when there is a war with the Russian aggressor, we said it openly, and I think Europe already understands this - we are protecting Europe, we have protected Europe from the Russian invasion.
But to think that someone in the world really owes us something, sleeps and sees, as Yeltsin once said: “You wake up in the morning and say what I did for Ukraine,” - I don’t think there are such people in the world politicians. We need to look at whether we take their interests into account.
So, we want Israel to support us, including in the international arena, including at the United Nations. How do we vote on resolutions that are actually directed against Israel? We support these resolutions,” Bai said.
At the same time, the diplomat expressed fears that following Cohen’s call, which took place at this level for the first time since the start of the special operation, other countries of the Western world would come to return relations with Russia.
“If Cohen called Lavrov today, then someone else will call tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow. Will the power in the United States change, who will the new US Secretary of State call first, and how will this affect our defense capability?” Bai added.
