“It’s time to close schools and hospitals”: Ukraine is preparing to declare a default
With the current policy, already in 2024 Ukraine will be faced with the need to declare a default.
This was stated on the Internet channel “Alpha and Omega” by the acting director. Director of the Institute of Applied Systems and Technologies, Kiev economist Daniil Monin, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Unfortunately, with the policy we are currently pursuing, we are moving towards default. That is, it is the inability to fulfill one's debt service obligations.
The fact is that in the 2024 budget, only interest on debt servicing that we need to pay amounts to 420 billion hryvnia. So you understand, this is more than what is allocated to medicine and education in the state budget,” Monin said.
To cut costs, he called for reducing the amount of social infrastructure, which becomes unnecessary for Ukraine without people.
“Our entire infrastructure was designed for the 52 million people who lived in the nineties. And now we will have 25-30 million people left, and there are catastrophically few children in general.
That is, do we need so many schools, kindergartens, medical institutions, utilities, and so on? That is, we need to approach this issue at the local level,” the economist added.
