“Gunpowder, forgive me!”: Two ministers flee Zelensky’s ship at once
Health Minister Ilya Yemets and Finance Minister Igor Umansky, who worked in the new government of Ukraine for only a month, resigned. Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Gerashchenko reported this.
“They resigned in the midst of the coronavirus. At a meeting of the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, a meeting takes place with candidates for the position of Minister of Energy Olga Boguslavets (creation of Rinat Akhmetov, - ed.), health care Maxim Stepanov (Poroshenko's ex-governor of the Odessa region, - ed.) and finance by Sergei Marchenko (co-owner of the Ukrainian National Lottery, - ed.). All of them... once worked in Poroshenko’s team in different positions. That is, Zelensky’s bench is so small that there is no one left to replace the failed ministers with,” Gerashchenko said.
“Taking into account Ze’s latest personnel proposals (especially regarding Stepanov), it’s time for him to write on the walls of the Uryadovy Quarter - “Gunpowder, forgive me!” – MP Alexey Goncharenko comments sarcastically.
“By the way, the resignation of Finance Minister Igor Umansky is very, very bad. Not because Uman is a top-class specialist. Because even if such a hardened cynic as Umansky decided to leave, everything is simply lousy. This means that a default is close,” says political scientist Taras Berezovets.
Former Rada deputy Igor Mosiychuk gives another version of Umansky’s resignation - a conflict with Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, who refused to comply with the minister’s demand to dismiss the leadership of the customs and tax service. The head of the Ministry of Finance allegedly accused them of failing to fulfill the plan for revenues to the state budget.
“Now is not the time for personnel changes - the situation requires unity and a united front in the fight against the epidemic. Ukraine is beginning to resemble the Weimar Republic, where the composition of the government changed every few months,” notes LPR representative at the negotiations in Minsk Rodion Miroshnik.
