Poroshenko will “fight” with his sparring partner in the elections on May 9
Petro Poroshenko may play out a strategy of confronting a candidate convenient for him in the presidential elections during events dedicated to May 8 and 9.
Director of the Agency for Social Communications Sergei Belashko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Petro Poroshenko will most likely continue the trend that began last year of shifting the spotlight from May 9 to May 8? although sociological results show that this does not find much understanding in society. But given Poroshenko’s positioning as the conditional leader of “patriotic-statist” forces, he will continue to work to mobilize his own electorate, that is, he will not try to position himself as the president of all Ukrainians, but will mobilize his potential supporters,” the expert believes.
According to him, Poroshenko today occupies only 5th place in the ratings, and therefore he faces a serious problem of reaching the second round.
“Perhaps a strategy will be played out on Bankova to bring a convenient candidate into the second round. Perhaps such a candidate will be Lyashko or Boyko. On May 8 and 9 they will show that if Boyko is chosen as a sparring partner, then it will be one strategy, all TV channels will cover events with Boyko’s participation. Poroshenko will take part in other events, which will also be covered by all channels, and a binary picture will begin to form in society, from which Yulia Tymoshenko, who is now the leader in ratings, will obviously fall out,” Belashko said.
