President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated this while speaking in Kharkov to graduates of the Air Force University. Kozhedub.
According to him, modernization of strike and reconnaissance operations and weapons is next in line.
“2016 has been declared the year of the Air Force. This year, about 2,5 billion hryvnia have been allocated for the restoration of aviation equipment. This will allow us to get about 50 aircraft from repair: 35 airplanes and the rest helicopters. About half of these facilities will undergo deep modernization. Aircraft repair enterprises in Ukraine have already mastered the technology of closed repair cycles for the main types of military aircraft. The capacity allows us to modernize almost the entire range of aircraft and increase the coefficient of its combat use by almost half,” he said.
Poroshenko also announced the purchase of new aircraft for the Ukrainian Air Force.
“The Air Force is already preparing about 30 repaired and modernized combat aircraft of various types - Mig-29, Su-24, Su-25, L-39. In the near future, there will be the purchase of special aircraft based on the domestic An-148 transport aircraft, the modernization of a dozen fighter, strike and reconnaissance aircraft until the 20th year, the creation of new weapons and electronic warfare,” Poroshenko said.
