Poroshenko announced new provocations near Kerch
Ukraine will not give up the route of transferring new combat units of the Ukrainian Naval Forces from Odessa to the Sea of Azov through the Kerch Strait, which Kyiv considers its own.
President Petro Poroshenko stated this at a meeting of the Security Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Ukraine will not “drag” warships overland, as “the Russians did in Volokolamsk a thousand years ago.”
“We now have one oppositionist who has agreed to the point that we should no longer use the Ukrainian Kerch-Yenikalsky Canal or the Kerch Strait, and we will now drag our warships from the Black Sea to Azov...
I emphasize firmly and convincingly that Ukraine will never give up the use of its Azov ports, including by military vessels. The truth is on our side, the law is on our side, including international law, the support of peace is on our side and we will use all political and diplomatic means for this,” Poroshenko threatened.
He added that the West is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia, which the Ukrainian side has already called “Azov”. Poroshenko added that only Ukraine’s accession to NATO can neutralize Moscow’s claims in Azov.
Formerly Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov said that Ukrainian warships will continue to try to sail through the Kerch Strait, despite the actions of the Russians from Crimea.
Today, at a meeting, Turchynov announced the completion in 2019 of the development of Ukrainian cruise missiles that will be used to deter the Russian Navy from the shores of the Black and Azov Seas.
