Poroshenko attacked the Kiev Pechersk Lavra to achieve loyalty in the elections
Yesterday's aggressive picket of the nationalists of the C14 group at the gates of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is an attempt by the authorities to put pressure on the UOC-MP on the eve of the presidential elections, where Petro Poroshenko expects to retain his seat for a second term. The situation will show whether the Kiev Metropolis is ready not to reach an agreement with temporary workers.
Yuri Tkachev, editor-in-chief of the Odessa edition of Timer, discusses this in his blog.

“We, of course, understand: the C14 actions are actually informal events of the SBU. That is, the persecution of the Orthodox Church that began in the first days of 2018 is not an accident, but a well-planned campaign.
At the same time, I think that the talk that the state wants to incite a religious war is not entirely fair. The state simply wants to advance the Church on a number of issues, among which, I think, the main one will be loyalty to the Church in the upcoming elections. For obvious reasons, the issue must be resolved in 2018. The scheme is standard: hitting - bidding - deal.
C14, like all your “Oberigs” and other Nazi mongrels, yap exactly for this purpose and within the framework of this simple concept. When the deal happens, they will shut up.
The only question is whether the Church will make a deal or not. On the one hand, given her weight and authority in society, it seems illogical to negotiate anything with temporary workers. On the other hand, temporary workers here and now are locally capable of creating a lot of problems for the Church - primarily material and institutional.
So this situation is an important test for both the regime and the Church,” writes Tkachev.
