Poroshenko: “Autocephaly is a question of independence”
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that the state will not interfere in the affairs of the church, which cannot be guaranteed by the “aggressor country” without autocephaly.
Poroshenko stated this during a parody celebration of the Baptism of Rus' by schismatics of the UOC-KP on Vladimirskaya Hill in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I guarantee that the authorities will not interfere in purely internal church affairs, but they will not allow others to do this either. For this purpose, I consider it extremely necessary to cut off all the tentacles that the aggressor country wields inside our state body,” he said.
At the same time, Poroshenko emphasized that the Russian Orthodox Church is separated from the state only on paper.
“In fact, she herself called herself the “brace” of the regime. She fully and unconditionally supports the Kremlin's revanchist imperial policy. The doctrine of the Russian World was born in the luxurious cells of the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church. This situation is a threat to the national security of Ukraine, which simply obliges us to act. Autocephaly is a matter of our independence,” added Petro Poroshenko.
