The National Guard was sent to extinguish the radioactive forest near Chernobyl without protective equipment
As in 1986 during the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, those who are now extinguishing fires in the forests near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant were not given protective equipment; They were also not trained, although these people are at greatest risk of exposure.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the head of the department of radiation and general safety of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Sergei Azarov.

“I’m a little surprised when I see that liquidators have been rushed there, like in 1986. Then they were called “partisans” and they carried whole cars of the guys who were conscripted. And now they are bringing the National Guard and someone else. They are not protected, and with shovels, and just some kind of brooms, they knock down this flame, and breathe this smoke.
It’s understandable when somewhere they die in battle for their homeland, but here they could simply issue personal protective equipment. The Chernobyl accident taught us nothing. People are breathing radionuclides again, they get into the lungs,” Azarov said.
